Delight

A man will stop at nothing to please the subject or object of his delight.

The young man, who was the most honored of all his father’s family, lost no time in doing what they said, because he was delighted with Jacob’s daughter. (Genesis 34:19 NIV)

Satisfaction is good, but delight trumps satisfaction. Delight goes a couple of steps beyond satisfaction.

Satisfaction is measured by expectations and you are satisfied once your expectations are met. Delight on the other hand speaks of excitement, great pleasure, unbridled joy, going beyond the boundary, exceeding limits and breaking barriers. Delight speaks of an experience beyond satisfaction.

In our relationship with God, He does not want us to stop at the level of satisfaction, God wants us to engage Him at the rapturous level of delight.

Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. (Psalm 37:4 NIV)

but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. (Psalm 1:2 NIV).

But Samuel replied: “Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the Lord? To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams. (1 Samuel 15:22 NIV)

The Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him; (Psalm 37:23 NIV)

Will they find delight in the Almighty? Will they call on God at all times? (Job 27:10 NIV)

That is the pertinent question. Will we go beyond the ordinary, nominal and basic level of relationship with God. Would we take it a notch further and make The Lord our delight?

God is waiting..
